Hunter Nichols - President
I have been employed by Sherman Fire-Rescue for seven years. In that time I have been continually reminded of how great the fire service is and how wonderful of a department I represent. The men and women of this profession are beyond reproach and I consider it my obligation as the President of this union to ensure that we have every tool possible to do our job safely, efficiently and provide a good quality of life for our families. In addition to being an officer, I am also the father of two daughters, Ellyson and Dawsyn, a son, Rowan and husband to my beautiful wife, Darby. I play the highland bagpipes and have the pleasure of traveling with my family and band mates to compete across the Country and internationally. I am beyond blessed and will always do my best to represent this association and department to the best of my abilities.
Shane Kenney - Vice President
I have been a member of the fire service for 12 years and am now serving as a station officer. I have lived in Grayson County my entire life and spent my entire career serving the city of Sherman. My most recent accomplishment would have to be marrying my incredible wife on St Patrick's day of 2018. Throughout my career I have learned that unity and teamwork can accomplish even the most difficult tasks. I believe that through forward thinking and persistence our association will continue to grow and prosper. I am looking forward to being a part of the progressive changes that are to come in our organization. It is an honor and a privilege to give back to the members of Local 2002 and their families.
Luke Jennings - Secretary/Treasurer
I am a proud father two beautiful girls and husband to a beautiful wife. I have been in the fire service for a very short four years and have loved every day of it. I am blessed to have had parents that instilled in me a great sense of duty and responsibility. I believe that it is not only my job do my best in whatever I do, but also to work to make things better for those that will follow. My faith will always be my foundation and there have been countless times I’ve been grateful to have such to rely on. As an officer, I will work to ensure that our men are treated justly and that I represent our Local 2002 in a way that would make every member proud.
Colby Rich - Executive Member Place 1
I came into the fire service in 2011 after spending 9 years as a pastor, and I continue to serve as an associate pastor at a church in Bonham, TX. I serve as a student pastor and play guitar and drums in our church’s band. My wonderful wife, Melissa, is a school counselor and we have two active kids: Connor and Camdyn. I have a bachelor’s degree from Austin College in Communication Arts with a Religious Studies minor. From the time I hired on at Sherman Fire-Rescue in 2012, I knew this department was the place I wanted to spend my entire career. The fellowship and brotherhood that embodies this profession is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I’m truly honored to represent the members of Sherman Fire-Rescue, and I’ll strive to work “with all (my) heart, as working for the Lord” (Colossians 3:23).
Chad Martin - Executive Member Place 2
I am a Husband to my lovely wife Trina, a father to a large family with 5 children and 5 grandchildren, and a Firefighter with the City of Sherman now completing my 27th year of service. My career choice began to form in my childhood as my Dad was involved with the formation and development of the volunteer fire department in the small rural community where we live. Involvement in a couple of emergency incidents as a young adult further fueled my desire to train for a career in emergency services. Several of my family members have grown into roles in Emergency Services and Healthcare as well.
Throughout my career I have attended many hours of classes, training sessions, and certification courses. Thousands of emergency responses of all types have been logged and I have served in almost every rank and role within our fire department organization. The people I’ve met and relationships developed have made it a career better than I could have imagined. I frequently tell the new hires that this truly is the best job in the world. You get to help people in their moment of need, all of the time spent in training and preparation come down to critical moments in someone’s life. One of my mentors told me that “We aren’t paid for what we do, we are paid for what we are prepared to do”. I have tried to live this mantra and learn something new each shift. As an Association member and officer I hope to represent this outstanding group of civil servants and serve them to further the agendas of our membership, department and city.
